Barton View Neighborhood Association Letter to AMD

Dear Mr. Ruiz,

Barton View Neighborhood Association works to protect and preserve the quality of life for its residents.  While we recognize Advanced Micro Devices as a leading major employer, corporate leader, and contributor to Austinís economy, we are concerned about your decision to relocate your offices to the Lantana site on Southwest Parkway.

Our community has, since the late 1970ís, called for steering development into preferred growth areas to the east and downstream of our Hill County water supply watersheds.  Moving Austinís 6th largest employer into the Edwards Aquifer Contributing Zone is not consistent with the resources and effort that has been expended over the years to promote growth in desired locations.

We are concerned that only 31 percent of AMD employees live southwest, requiring 69 percent to commute in from other parts of Austin causing a substantial increase in traffic and pollution problems.  The Barton View neighborhood is already impacted by traffic ñ any additional will make it even more difficult for us to get to and from our homes.

Our neighborhood is also adjacent to Barton Creek and City of Austin Water Quality Protection Lands.  We have consistently voiced our strong support for the principles of the SOS ordinance.

Barton View Neighborhood Association requests AMD management to reconsider its decision and work with the City of Austin and stakeholders in the community to find a new location that will be beneficial to its employees, as well as the community.

Thank you for your consideration.

Patrick Larson
President, Barton View Neighborhood Association
