A standoff over a replacement pipeline in Southwest Austin erupted in two courts Wednesday, as the City of Austin filed 28 misdemeanor charges against Longhorn Partners Pipeline LP for doing construction without city permission. Within an hour, the Dallas-based company returned fire by asking a federal judge to stop the city and declare that it has no say over the pipeline's installation.
The federal case will be heard first, on Jan. 10 before U.S. District Judge Sam Sparks, who still presides over the city's 1998 lawsuit against Longhorn. The city's charges are set for March 6 in Municipal Court.
