Regulators reject inspection delay

The federal Department of Transportation denied a request by Longhorn Partners Pipeline Co. of Houston to indefinitely delay internal pipeline inspections.

The 700-mile pipeline, originating at Kinder Morgan's storage terminal in Galena Park and stretching to El Paso, has had a contentious history with the city of Austin.

Longhorn recently completed several internal inspections throughout Austin and surrounding environ-
mentally sensitive areas, including the Barton Springs/Edwards Aquifer Water Conservation District.

The department's decision gives Longhorn 120 days to completely assess the rest of the pipeline, searching for external corrosion and verifying its integrity along all 700 miles.
