Wal-Mart Resolution - Save Our Springs Alliance
Wal-Mart Resolution - Save Our Springs Alliance
Whereas, Barton Springs is facing increasing levels of numerous pollutants;
Whereas, a large amount of said pollution is generated by large parking lots over the Barton Springs Recharge and Contributing Zones;
Whereas, "big-box" shopping centers attract thousands of automobiles onto these parking lots and encourage vehicle traffic over the Barton Springs Recharge and Contributing Zones and contribute significant pollutant load to Barton Springs;
Whereas, the impervious cover maximum under the Save Our Springs Ordinance is 15% for land in this area;
Whereas, Endeavor Real Estate Group proposes to develop approximately 30 acres of undeveloped land in the Barton Springs Recharge Zone at 51% impervious cover on its own and in conjuction with sale of a portion of the land to Wal-Mart;
Therefore, be it known, that the Board of Directors of Save Our Springs Alliance does hereby oppose the proposed development by Endeavor and Wal-Mart, which would increase pollution in Barton Springs; and further, that Save Our Springs Alliance offers to work cooperatively with neighborhood, environmental, transportation, safety, civic, educational and any groups interested in opposing this proposal and demanding that Wal-Mart not build a new store in the Barton Springs Recharge Zone.
