A ChevronTexaco-owned LPG pipeline exploded in a rural area of Texas on Thursday. No injuries were reported. The company closed off valves at either end of the segment to stop the 14-inch pipeline's flow. The cause of the rupture is unknown at this time and an investigation is underway.

The section of liquefied petroleum pipeline that exploded was in a pasture, not near nay structures or people. The pipeline stretches from West Texas' Permian Basin to Mont Belvieu, Texas in the east.

One person was killed and eight were injured after an explosion occurred about 10 miles west of Crane, Texas, Tuesday afternoon. The explosion occurred at about 3:45 p.m. near Highway 329.

"A flow line apparently ruptured and ignited a flash fire. We still don't know what caused this," said Mark Henkhaus, district director for the Midland office of the Texas Railroad Commission.

Tim Dunn, CEO of CrownQuest said his Midland-based company operates the lease with a flowing oil well on it where the incident occurred. Dunn said CrownQuest hired a chemical company or companies to alleviate a paraffin plugging problem, a procedure needed to unclog the waxy oil that is restricting oil flow.

There was no fire after the initial explosion, Simmons said.
